The Journey Behind Abrazos

Before my mother became ill, she was my support system. I was raising two young daughters, working full-time, building a business, and caring for my family as a wife and grandmother. I was also facing my own health challenges—and depression was quietly trying to take hold.

When her illness arrived—dementia slowly fading her mind, cancer weakening her body—everything shifted. I became her caregiver, stepping into a role filled with love but also exhaustion, confusion, and isolation.

My children watched their grandmother disappear in pieces. They felt the weight of grief, fear, and change in ways I couldn’t shield them from.

That experience changed all of us. And it showed me how many families—especially in underserved communities—are facing the same struggle, often without support or guidance.

Abrazos Network is my response. My legacy. My promise to caregivers, patients, and families: You are not alone. We see you. We’re here to help.

Antes de que mi madre enfermara, ella era mi sostén. Mientras criaba a mis dos hijas pequeñas, trabajaba a tiempo completo, emprendía un negocio y cuidaba de mi familia, su apoyo silencioso me daba fuerzas. Todo esto mientras yo misma enfrentaba mis propios desafíos de salud y una depresión que intentaba ganar terreno.

Cuando la enfermedad llegó —la demencia apagando poco a poco su mente y el cáncer debilitando su cuerpo— todo cambió. Pasé a ser su cuidadora, un rol lleno de amor, pero también marcado por el cansancio, la confusión y la soledad.

Mis hijas vieron como su abuela se desvanecía en pedazos, y yo no pude protegerlas del dolor, del miedo, ni de la incertidumbre.

Esa experiencia nos transformó profundamente. Y me mostró algo claro: muchísimas familias, especialmente en comunidades con menos recursos, enfrentan estas mismas luchas en silencio, sin la orientación ni el apoyo que tanto necesitan.

De esa verdad nace Abrazos Network.

Es mi respuesta. Mi legado. Mi promesa a cuidadores, pacientes y familias:
